CLINTON – Senior Caleb Sholar and junior Scott Bowen combined to pitch a 5-hitter Thursday night as West Bladen defeated Clinton 10-3 in Four County Conference baseball action.

Sholar worked the first 4.2 innings on the mound to pick up the win allowing 3 hits and 3 runs while striking out five. Bowen relieved and pitched a scoreless 2.1 innings giving up 2 hits and striking out two.

The Dark Horse took an early 1-0 lead, but the Knights exploded for 5 runs in the second inning. Senior Trent West walked, and Bowen smacked a single. Freshman Logan West knocked in Trent West with a single.

After Sholar walked, freshman Jake Butler lined a single to left that scored Bowen. Senior Hunter Pait beat out a bunt single that scored Logan West. Senior Weston Pidgeon reached on an error as another run scored, and senior Jarrett Williams walked to force in the final run of the inning.

Senior T. J. Guyton walked in the Knight fourth inning, and Williams belted a single. A throwing error on Trent West’s fielder’s choice allowed Guyton to score and pad the lead to 6-1.

Clinton closed the gap to 6-3, but the Knights pulled away with 3 runs in the sixth. Pidgeon walked and raced home when Guyton hammered a double. After Williams drew a walk, a balk advanced both runners before Bowen laced a single that drove in both Guyton and Williams.

Senior Cody Garner reached base on an error in the West Bladen seventh inning then sprinted to third base on an errant pick-off attempt. Pidgeon’s fielder’s choice brought home Garner with the final Knight run.

Bowen batted 2-4 with 2 runs batted in and a run scored. Guyton finished 2-4 at the plate with a double, 2 runs scored and an rbi. Logan West also batted 2-4 with an rbi and a run scored.

Williams, Butler and Pait added one hit each for the winners. Williams, Butler, Pait and Pidgeon drove in runs, and Trent West, Pidgeon and Garner scored runs.

Coach Kim Cain’s Knights improved to 9-3 in league play and 11-9 overall. West Bladen will host Midway Tuesday at 7 p.m.
