Jarrett Williams lined a bases-loaded single over a drawn in outfield that scored Weston Pidgeon with the winning run, giving West Bladen a 4-3 win over Union on Thursday in a Four County Conference baseball game.

Jeremy Hunt (3-3) struck out 13, allowed only a pair of singles and gave up three unearned run on the mound for West Bladen. The senior right-hander retired the last eight batters.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Knights, who improved to 3-4 in conference games and 4-10 overall. Union is 0-8 and 0-14.

Trailing 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, West Bladen began its rally with walks to Hunt and Pidgeon. Chandler Lennon following with a single to right that scored Hunt and sent Pidgeon to third. After Trent West was intentionally walked to load the bases, Williams hit the first pitch for the the game-winning hit.

Hunt and West each went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run for West Bladen. Ray Jones had a single and scored the Knights’ first run in the fifth inning. Hunter Pait, Lennon and Williams each had one hit.

Union scored a pair of unearned runs in the third inning. After an out, Ty Travers reached on an error. Dawson Thorton followed with a single to right and Travers scored when the ball got past the right fielder. Thornton went to third on the play and scored on Jordan Blackburn’s sacrifice fly.

The Spartans made it 3-0 in the top of the fifth. Thornton struck out, but reached on a missed third strike. He went to second on a passed ball and scored on Zack Worley’s one-out single up the middle.

West Bladen cut it to 3-1 in fifth with a two-out rally. Consecutive singles by Jones, Pait and Hunt loaded the bases. Pidgeon then walked to force home Jones.

The Knights added another run in the sixth. West singled to center and Williams was hit by a pitch. Seth Britt reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt, and when the throw got away from the first baseman because of a collision, West scored.

West Bladen is scheduled to host rival East Bladen on Friday. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., although the game will start about 45 minutes following the junior varsity game, which is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
