SHALLOTTE – Senior Landon Everhart pitched an 8-hitter for 6 innings and batted a perfect 2-for-2 to lead West Brunswick to a 10-1 non-conference baseball victory over East Bladen Friday night.

Everhart allowed a run while striking out 6 and walking one. Senior Zachary Steagall pitched a scoreless 7th inning and struck out 2 while hitting a batter.

Senior Ty Mathis ripped a 2-out single to left field in the East 1st inning, and junior Jake Futrell lined a single to right. Senior Zamar Lewis scalded a base hit through the middle that scored Mathis for a 1-0 Eagle lead.

Junior Noah Fluharty led off the Trojan 1st inning with a single, advanced on junior Linden Clemmons single then stole home to tie the game 1-1. Three walks and 2 hits led to 4 Trojan runs in the 2nd inning. Steagall walked and eventually stole home. Junior Connor Bart singled and scored on a bases-loaded walk, and Fluharty singled and eventually scored on a passed ball.

Sophomore William Powell cracked a 2-out single in the West 4th inning, advanced on a walk and an Everhart single before stealing home. Steagall hammered a triple in the 5th inning and scored on Noah Faulders’ bunt single to pad the lead to 6-1. Four walks, a hit batter and 2 hits produced 4 more West runs in the 6th inning.

Futrell batted a perfect 3-for-3 to lead the Eagle hitters. Lewis finished 2-for-3 at the plate with the run batted in. Mathis and juniors Tyler Johnson and Parker Greene collected 1 hit each. Mathis scored the run.

Futrell started on the mound and pitched 5 innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits and 5 walks while striking out 8. Junior Na’Toren Corbett pitched 0.2 innings of relief and gave up 4 runs on 1 hit and 3 walks while striking out one. Junior Lee Barnes gave up a single and a walk in his 0.1 innings.

Fluharty batted 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored for the Trojans. Bart was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Steagall tripled and scored 3 runs. Powell singled and scored twice.

The Eagles, now 2-4, will open Southeastern Athletic Conference play Tuesday night at Midway.
