GASTONIA- The Bladen County All-Stars were narrowly eliminated from advancing to the medal round of the State-Wide Activities Committee 14U Boys State Soccer Tournament.

Bladen County and Nash County played to a 0-0 tie in their final game of bracket play to finish the round with 1-1-1 records. The third and deciding tiebreaker after records and head-to-head was goals against, and Nash only allowed 6 goals in their 3 games while the Bladen team allowed 7.

Bladen County defeated Belmont #2 5-2 Friday night. Garrett Masaid fired in a ‘Hat Trick’ of 3 goals to lead the Bladen scoring. Teammates Joel Johnson and Edwin Martinez added one goal each.

“Stephen Allen had a great game in goal making numerous saves,” said Bladen Coach Jay Raynor.

In Saturday’s first game Rocky Mount scored a pair of first-half goals and tallied 3 more in the second half for a 5-0 victory.

“Freddie and Ika McElveen did a tremendous job with these guys,” said Coach Raynor. “The boys really improved throughout the season, and I hate they didn’t get through to tomorrow. This was a very talented group, and a young group as well.”

“Big shout out to Ika and Freddie for filling in for me,” continued Raynor. “They went the extra mile making sure kids had rides, places to stay and were fed. These coaches and players represented Bladen County well.”
