Boys Basketball: Red Springs 61, East Bladen 49

RED SPRINGS – Senior Jordan Ferguson fired in 11 of his game-high 24 points during a second-period surge that propelled Red Springs to a 61-49 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over East Bladen Tuesday night.

Junior center Javant McDowell dropped in a pair of first quarter baskets for the Eagles, but junior Corell Love threw in 2 buckets that edged the Red Devils ahead 8-7.

Ferguson burnt the nets with 5 baskets that sparked Red Springs to a 28-19 halftime lead. Junior guard Charles Brown pumped in 2 baskets and a free throw for East, McDowell powered in a basket and a free throw, and junior Freddy Wooten sank 3 free throws for in the second quarter.

McDowell and junior Jacob Priest threw in 2 baskets and a free throw each in the third quarter for East, but Jordan Ferguson and Gary Locklear buried 3-point shots to keep Red Springs on top 40-39 at the quarter break.

Ferguson connected on 2 baskets and 4 free throws in the final quarter, and teammate Corey Newton added a basket and 3 free throws. The Red Devils made 12 of 18 foul shots in the period.

McDowell worked the paint for 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the final period, and junior Wes Hodge bombed in a pair of 3-point shots. Wooten also drilled in a 3-point shot.

McDowell led the Eagle attack with 18 points. Brown finished with 7 points, and Priest and Hodge added 6 points each. Love followed Ferguson on the Red Devil scoring list with 11 points, and Locklear totaled 10 points.

The Eagles, now 0-3 in the TRC and 1-4 overall, will travel to Jacksonville Northside Thursday night.
