West Bladen High School LogoROWLAND – A lane violation nullified a tying West Bladen free throw, and South Robeson held on for a 90-89 double overtime victory Tuesday night in Three Rivers Conference boys basketball action.

Senior Scott Bowen sank the first of two free throws with 16 seconds left in the second overtime to trim the South Robeson lead to 90-89, but the violation wiped out the second attempt. A Mustang turnover gave the Knights a final desperation shot that failed.

Zack Carter, Jarias Davis and Daniel Murray scored 4 points each to spark the Mustangs to a 23-17 first quarter lead. Bowen fired in a trio of baskets and a free throw, and senior center Jonathan Robinson dropped in 2 baskets and a free throw to keep West close.

Carter rang up 6 points in the second period, and Jaleel Lesane added 4 as the Mustangs kept the margin at 48-41 at halftime.

Robinson battled inside for 4 baskets in the quarter, and senior Jimmy Williams made 5 of 6 free throws. Senior Gerardo Reyes drilled in a 3-point shot and a free throw in the period for West.

The Knights opened the third quarter with ten unanswered points to take a 51-48 lead and maintained that margin to the end of the period. Robinson racked up 4 more baskets in the quarter, freshman Shyron Adams and sophmore Trashawn Ballard drained 3-point shots, and Bowen netted a pair of 2-point baskets to keep West up 68-65.

Ballard, sophmore Tyre Boykin and Williams scored baskets as the Knights held on to a 74-73 lead. Free throws by Bowen and Williams kept West Bladen even at 76-76.

Adams knocked down a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left to put the Knights on top 78-76, but the Mustangs’ Eric Lewis beat the buzzer with a lay-up to force the first overtime.

Bowen tallied 6 of West Bladen’s 7 points in the first overtime throwing in two baskets and two free throws. Reyes tacked on a free throw, but the overtime ended tied at 85.

Robinson cashed in 2 free throws, and Williams made one foul shot to keep the Knights within 90-88 in the second overtime.

Robinson powered in 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the Knight offense. Bowen poured in 20 points, Williams finished with 12 points, and Reyes added 10 points. Boykin and Ballard added 8 points each.

Carter led South Robeson with 16 points. Cameron Werrell posted a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds, and Davis recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jaleel Lesane pumped in 15 points, and Murray added 11 points.

The Knights will host Whiteville Friday night.
