ROCKY POINT – Seniors John Bowen and Sayaun Dent combined for 50 points as West Bladen’s Knights ran their winning streak to nine straight games with a 70-53 Four County Conference boys basketball victory over Heide Trask Tuesday night.

“It was a good win,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “Especially since it is the first time that I have ever won a game at Trask. Our guys competed and were patient.”

Bowen poured in 27 points, and Dent was right behind him with 23 points. Junior Jonathan Robinson and senior Kalvin Page added 6 points each. Junior Jimmy Williams finished with 5 points.

John Bowen dropped in a pair of 2-point baskets and bombed in a 3-point shot in the first quarter as the Knights built a 17-14 lead. Robinson and Page threw in 2 baskets each in the quarter.

“Jonathan Robinson kept us in the game early until Sayaun and John picked it up,” said Coach Pait. “Our guys made some good plays to get the ball to John (Bowen), and he did a great job of finishing.”

John Bowen tossed in 3 more baskets in the second quarter, and Dent buried a 3-point shot, popped in 2 more baskets and 3 free throws as a 19-9 West Bladen surge opened up a 36-23 halftime lead. Williams drained a 3-point shot in the quarter.

Dent fired in another 3-point shot, 2 baskets and a free throw in the third period. Bowen added 2 more baskets, and sophmore Keshawn Lewis nailed a 3-point shot as the lead grew to 55-38. “Keshawn played one of his best games of the season,” noted Coach Pait.

Bowen delivered 8 more points in the final quarter on four baskets. Dent connected on another 3-ball and made 2 free throws.  “We did a good job of icing the ball there at the end,” continued Coach Pait.

Tiyuan Ballard led the Titans with 21 points, and Jajuan Carr and Jakell Newton added 11 points each. Titan star B. J. Jordan failed to score in the game.

“I think our length bothered them and really gave them problems,” said Coach Pait. “We gave up some 3-pointers (8), but we can live with that as long as we limit them to only one shot, and we did a good job of that. I don’t think we gave up many points – if any – off of turnovers.”

The Knights, now 9-2 and 2-0 in league play, will host Pender Wednesday night.

WEST BLADEN (70) – Kalvin Page 6, Scott Bowen, Jimmy Williams 5, Keshawn Lewis 3, Drew Harris, Sayaun Dent 23, Gerardo Reyes, Jonathan Robinson 6, John Bowen 27.
