ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Amajae Lowery poured in 23 points and made 4 of 5 free throws in the final period as West Columbus edged East Bladen 52-50 Tuesday night in Three Rivers Conference boys basketball action.

 

The Vikings bombed in nine 3-point shots and converted 9 of 12 foul shots in the game, including 7 of 9 in the 4th quarter. Freshman Unique Kelly finished with 14 points for West.

East Bladen senior Javant McDowell muscled in a pair of 1st quarter baskets for the Eagles. Sophomore Malcolm Bolden sank a basket and a free throw, and senior Jacob Priest pumped in a basket. 

 

UNC-Pembroke commit Brandis Kelly answered with a pair of baskets for West in the opening quarter, and Lowery and Unique Kelly drilled in 3-point shots as the Vikings built an early 14-9 lead.

 

McDowell dominated the paint in the 2nd quarter powering in 4 baskets and a free throw. Bolden and senior Rasean McKoy dropped in baskets, and Priest netted a free throw as the Eagles closed the gap to 25-23.

 

McKoy took charge inside in the 3rd period pumping in 3 baskets and 2 free throws. McDowell flipped in 2 baskets, and senior Charles Brown and sophomore Zamar Lewis tossed in baskets. However Lowery and Unique Kelly drained two 3-point baskets each to keep the Vikings on top 43-39.

 

A trio of baskets by McKoy rallied the Eagles in the final period. Bolden nailed a 3-point shot, and McDowell banged in another basket.

 

East Bladen’s inside duo of McDowell and McKoy combined for 35 points. McDowell led the way with 19 points, and McKoy followed with 16 points. Bolden contributed 8 points.

 

The Eagles, now 1-3 in league play and 4-3 overall, will host West Bladen Wednesday night in a non-conference game.
