It’s not a good sign when you get 67% of your predictions correct and your season percentage goes up. That’s what happened in Week 3 of the football season.

High school is even worse, if that’s possible. Last week’s 4-3 record was an improvement on the season percentage.

How about if we just flip a coin? Heads I win, tails you lose.

Week 3 record: 10-5
Season record: 23-15 (61%)
Prep record: 4-3 last week (15-12 season, 56%)
College record: 6-2 last week (8-3 season, 73%)
Pro record: 0-0

HIGH SCHOOL

WILMINGTON LANEY at EAST BLADEN: The Eagles’ challenging non-conference schedule comes to an end. It may not be a pleasant ending, however. Laney’s offense is led by quarterback Ty Little, who is the grandson of Clarkton’s Mark and Ethel Little. Ty passed for 2,477 yards and 27 touchdowns last season. The East Bladen secondary will be challenged. The Eagles (1-2) will need a ball control offense to slow down the Bucs. Laney 41, East Bladen 14.

EAST COLUMBUS at WEST BLADEN: Two teams in search of their first win. Something has to give. The Knights broke a double-digit losing streak in Lake Waccamaw a season ago. They have a chance to get a win again this season. Don’t look for many points. West Bladen 13, East Columbus 8.

FRIDAY’S PICK TO CLICK

I’m on board the Frances Tiafoe train now. The 22nd-seed is the most exciting story now. A four-set win over third-seeded Carlos Alcaraz will put the American in the U.S. Open finals Sunday.

THURSDAY’S PICK: Buffalo’s Von Miller will have 1.5 sacks and 5 tackles against his former team, the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, as the 2022 NFL season opens. RESULTS: Miller had 2 sacks, 4 solo tackles which included 3 for losses, and 2 quarterback hits as Buffalo won 31-10.
