D. J. Mason Campbell UniversityWest Bladen grad D.J. Mason burnt the nets for 17 points Saturday, but his Campbell Camels dropped an 81-71 Big South Conference decision to UNC-Asheville.

Mason connected on 8 of 10 shots from the field, dished out 3 assists and had 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

The 6-6 senior dropped in an early lay-up, then slammed in a dunk that tied the game 13-13.

In the second half, Mason sank a free throw and popped in a jumper to keep the Camels within 45-38. The Clarkton native dropped in 4 more lay-ups and threw down another dunk but Campbell still trailed 75-69 with 1:43 left to play.

The Camels will host Gardner-Webb Thursday at 7 p.m.
