CERRO GORDO – A 4-run fourth-inning broke open a 1-0 game and carried Whiteville to a 5-0 victory over Elizabethtown Tuesday night in an elimination game in the District 2 Dixie Youth Baseball Majors Supplemental Tournament.
Jordan Hester batted a perfect 2-2 to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Teammates Garrett Dunham, Natoren Corbett, Gabe Cashwell, Nolan Tatum, Conner Smith and Tredon Scott connected for one hit each.
Dunham started on the mound for Elizabethtown and struck out seven batters in 3.1 innings. Corbett came on in relief to pitch the final 1.2 innings.
“We came up short tonight against Whiteville but made a lot better showing,” said Elizabethtown Coach Kevin Dunham. “It was a good group of boys and families that were fun to coach.”
