Dixie Pre-Majors Baseball
West Bladen 4, East Columbus 2

Freshman left-hander Jarrett Williams pitched 6 innings of 6-hit baseball to lead West Bladen to a 4-2 Dixie Pre-Majors victory over visiting East Columbus Friday night.

Williams allowed only one earned run, struck out two and walked two as he pitched into the seventh inning. Freshman Scott Bowen came on to record the final 3 outs with some defensive help.

With the tying runs on base in the seventh, Jonathan Ashworth hauled in a fly ball in right field for the first out. Junior catcher Brandon Carson ended the game by throwing out a Gator base-runner attempting to steal third base.

Trailing 2-0 in the home half of the fourth, Bowen and sophomore Trent West belted singles to start a Knight rally. Junior Chandler Lennon’s grounder brought home Bowen and trimmed the margin to 2-1.

Carson cracked a one-out single in the West Bladen fifth. Ashworth reached on an error, and sophomore Weston Pidgeon knocked in Carson with a single to tie the game.

One out later junior Donald McCullum beat out an infield hit to shortstop that plated Ashworth. Pidgeon never stopped running on the play and scooted home from second base on the play.

Pidgeon, McCullum, Bowen, West and Carson collected one hit each for the winners. Bowen, Carson, Ashworth and Pidgeon scored runs. McCullum drove in 2 runs, and Pidgeon and Lennon had one run batted in each.

The Knights are now 3-2 on the season.
