Bladen County folks will remember Fairmont’s William McGirt as one of the best high school golfers to ever play in the area. McGirt, while in high school at Fairmont, played White Lake Golf Course many times during his high school golfing career. At the present McGirt is ranked 13th on the PGA money list. During the 2015-2016 tournament schedule, thru November 30, he has won a total of $592,700. The 2015-16 PGA tournament schedule starts in late fall.
McGirt had a world ranking in 2013 of 187. In 2014 he had moved up to 149 and at the present he is ranked 125 in the world. His best finishes have been three second places. He finished second in the 2012 and 2013 Royal Bank of Canada Open and second in 2015 in the Sanderson Farms Tournament.
