ELIZABETHTOWN – Sophmore Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson and freshman Patience Ward combined for 25 points to lead East Bladen’s Lady Eagles to a 39-23 non-conference girls basketball victory over Cape Fear.

Moore-Peterson tossed in 15 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 3 assists, while Ward pumped in 10 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Senior Emily Scott filled up the stat sheet with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists.

Junior Shardajah Brown added 6 points and 3 steals, and sophmore Ashley Hardin contributed 7 rebounds and 4 steals.

Ward sank 2 free throws and a basket in the first quarter, and Brown and Scott added baskets as the Lady Eagles took a 10-4 first period lead.

Moore-Peterson popped in 2 baskets in the second quarter, and Brown and Scott netted 2 free throws each as the East Bladen lead grew to 18-11.

Moore-Peterson fired in a 3-point shot and 2 more baskets to spark a 13-5 third quarter spurt that stretched the Lady Eagle lead to 31-16. Ward chipped in with 2 free throws and a basket in the period.

Sydney Faircloth led the Lady Colts with 11 points.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 12-3 overall and will host Union Friday at 6 p.m.
