ELIZABETHTOWN – Unbeaten East Bladen raced to a 25-3 first quarter lead en route to a 55-19 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over South Columbus on Friday night.

Sophomore Mya McDonald buried a pair of 3-point shots, 2 more baskets and a free throw to key the early Lady Eagle explosion. Sophomore Alexus Mitchell drained a 3-point shot and a 2-point shot, and senior Patience Ward tossed in a basket and 2 free throws.

Ward poured in 5 baskets in the second quarter including a 3-point bomb as the East Bladen lead grew to 40-15 at halftime. Junior Katie Evans and Mitchell fired in 3-point shots in the third period. Mitchell cashed in 4 free throws, and McDonald added a basket and a free throw as the lead grew to 55-17.

Ward topped all scorers with 20 points. McDonald racked up 14 points, and Mitchell finished with 12 points for East. Nonchalont Hemingway scored 6 points for the Lady Stallions.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles raised their record to 2-0 in league play and 5-0 overall. The Lady Eagles will travel to Red Springs on Tuesday night.
