ELIZABETHTOWN –Senior Patience Ward poured in 18 of her game-high 24 points in the first half as East Bladen’s Lady Eagles raced to a 45-9 halftime lead en route to a 66-21 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory Friday night over West Columbus.

Ward nailed a 3-point shot and a 2-pointer in the opening quarter then burnt the nets with 5 baskets and 3 free throws in the second period.

Sophomore Alexus Mitchell threw in 3 baskets in the first quarter, and freshman AnnaGrey Heustess dropped in a basket and 2 free throws as the Lady Eagles built a 15-6 lead.

Sophomore Mya McDonald tossed in 2 baskets and a free throw in the second quarter, and seniors Abbie Cross and Lorna Mendell pumped in 2 baskets each during a 30-3 second period blitz.

Ward popped in 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the third period, and Mitchell added 2 baskets as the Lady Eagle lead grew to 55-15 at the third quarter break.

Heustess connected for 2 baskets in the final quarter, and junior Aaniyah Jackson drained a 3-point shot for East.

Mitchell followed Ward on the Lady Eagle scoring list with 12 points, and Heustess finished with 10 points. McDonald filled up the stat sheet with 5 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Ward keyed the defense with 7 steals, 3 blocks and 5 rebounds. Freshman Maegan Burney grabbed 4 rebounds.

Haley Brown led the Lady Viking scoring with 10 points.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 4-0 in league play and 8-0 overall and will play at Grays Creek Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Cumberland County Holiday Classic.
