BOILING SPRING LAKE – South Brunswick defeated West Bladen 52-40 Friday night in non-conference girls basketball action.

Morgan Allred tallied 6 points and Abigail Spivey drained a 3-point shot in the first quarter as the Lady Cougars built a 16-11 lead. Senior Laikyn Pait dropped in a pair of baskets, and senior Jerena Purdie and sophmore Erica McKoy threw in a basket each for the Lady Knights in the period.

Danecia Price fired in 11 of her game-high 20 points in the second period for South Brunswick. Price swished a 3-pointer from the left corner and hit 8 of 12 free throws in the quarter. Spivey knocked down all 4 of her foul shots in the quarter to pad the lead to 33-22.

West senior Logan Autry nailed a 3-point shot from the right wing in the second period, and Purdie muscled in a basket and tacked on a foul shot. Senior Jenna Dove and junior Patience Parker tossed in one basket each in the quarter.

Parker buried a 3-pointer from the right corner and Pait bombed in a 3-pointer in the third quarter, but South Brunswick widened the gap to 47-29 behind 3 baskets and 2 free throws from Allred and 2 more baskets from Price.

Pait pumped in 2 baskets in the final quarter, and sophmore Conner Brisson, McKoy and Dove added one basket each as the Lady Knights closed the final margin to 52-40.

Pait topped the West Bladen scoring with 11 points. Parker followed with 6 points, and Autry and Purdie chipped in with 5 points each.Allred finished with 14 points to follow Price on the South scoring list.

The foulline proved to be the difference in the game as South Brunswick connected on 21 of 36 free throws, while West Bladen connected on only 7 of 25 free throws.

The Lady Knights, now 2-4, will host Union in their Four County Conference opener Tuesday night.
