LELAND – Senior Lacey Suggs recorded a ‘hat trick’ of 3 goals and sophmore Hannah Devane fired in 2 more to lead East Bladen to a 6-2 non-conference girls soccer victory over North Brunswick Wednesday.

Senior Abby Ward dished out 3 assists and scored the other Lady Eagle goal. Devane also had one assist. Junior Justyna Gargala was credited with 2 assists.

“We played pretty good tonight,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor. “We generated a lot of offense, and we got everyone in the game. All 20 girls played.”

In the seventeenth minute, Ward sent a pass to Suggs for the first East Bladen goal. Seven minutes later that combination clicked again for a 2-0 Lady Eagle lead.

In the 28th minute, Ward connected for her goal and pushed the East Bladen lead to 3-0. With 3 minutes left in the half, Gargala sent a pass to Devane who turned the feed into her first goal and stretched the Lady Eagle halftime lead to 4-0.

The Lady Eagles almost had a 5-0 halftime lead as Erika Morales-Baza knocked another shot into the net, but it was nullified by an offside call.

Suggs posted the hat trick early in the second half turning a Devane feed into her third goal of the night and extending the lead to 5-0.

The Lady Scorpions cracked the scoring column 15 minutes later, but East Bladen answered as another Ward assist led to a Devane goal and a 6-1 lead.

North Brunswick tacked on another goal late to trim the final margin to 6-2. “We gave up a couple of goals late in the game,” said Raynor.

Senior Kathryn Cole had 5 saves for East Bladen. The Lady Eagles had 8 corner kicks compared to 4 for North Brunswick.

The Lady Eagles remain unbeaten at 5-0 and will travel to East Columbus today for a 4:30 game.
