ELIZABETHTOWN-Junior Patience Ward and freshman Maya McDonald combined for 7 goals and 2 assists Monday night to lead undefeated East Bladen to a 9-0 Three Rivers Conference girls soccer victory over West Bladen.

Ward racked up a ‘Hat Trick’ plus one of 4 goals and added one assist. McDonald completed her ‘Hat Trick’ of 3 goals in the 74th minute and ended the game on the mercy rule.

“Patience had an amazing game,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor. “We have been encouraging her to attack the goal mouth more and tonight she did just that. Maya was incredible and it is fun to watch.”

Sophomore Katie Evans dished out 3 assists and scored a goal. Senior Ashley Hardin was also credited with 3 assists. Junior Sydney Wober scored a goal and had one assist.

“Ashley and Katie really did phenomenal jobs tonight,” said Raynor. “Ashley played seven different positions which gave us many different looks. The girls play so well with each other that we can move them around and not lose much.”

Raynor continued, “Tonight was a total team effort. With moving around some players we were able to give our front runners some time for a breather. That allows us to increase the intensity. These girls work hard and for each other.”

The Lady Eagles led 6-0 at halftime. “Abigail (Collins) did well in the back for us and worked well with Sarah (Johnson),” noted Raynor. “West was much improved from last year. The score doesn’t reflect how hard they played. I thought their goal keeper (Alyssa Smith) did an outstanding job and made several athletic saves on some difficult shots.”

East Bladen, now 7-0 in league play and 10-0 overall, will host St. Pauls Wednesday.
