The Greene’s Pond Open Bass Fishing Tournament was held Saturday under warm, sunny skies.

Matt Gause said the tournament was a success with nine teams making up the field.

“For the first time doing this in over ten years, I think it was good,” said Gause of the turnout.

Trucks with boats and trailers began arriving early on Saturday at Greene’s Pond and registration for the tournament began at 5:30 a.m. with a team captain’s meeting at 6:20 a.m. and a blast off at 6:30 a.m. The official weigh-in began at 2:30 p.m.

The winning team was Jeff and Jamie Gause with 12.39 pounds.

Second place went to Shawn Nye and Chris White with 10.50 pounds and third place went to Bill Pait and Don Brammer with 8.76 pounds. They also won the Big Fish Award with 4.43 pounds.

Gause said there was also a drawing for a Bubba Knife and a meal of chicken an barbecue was catered by Cape Fear Chicken and Barbecue.

“I fished a lot of tournaments before, but that one went as smooth as any tournament I’ve seen,” said Gause of the day.

Plans are also in the works for another tournament in September and in the spring, Gause said he plans to hold a Crappie tournament. The goal is to have two bass tournaments and Crappie Tournament at Greene’s Pond.
