Freshman Pierce Melvin pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 9 batters to lead East Bladen to a 16-0 Four County Conference jayvee baseball victory at Union Tuesday.

Melvin only walked 2 batters in the game that was called after 4 innings due to the mercy rule.

Shy Pone connected for 4 hits and scored 4 runs to lead the East Bladen hitters. Melvin cracked 2 hits and also scored 4 runs. Spencer Scott, Scott Howell and Eric Chancy contributed a single each to the nine-hit Eagle attack.

Scott scored 3 runs for East Bladen, and Greyson Heustess and Howell tallied 2 runs each. Tanner Meares scored the other Eagle run.

Heustess led off the first with a walk, and Pone smacked a single. Melvin and Meares reached on errors, and Meares drew a walk. All five of them scored as the Eagles took a 5-0 lead.

Pone and Melvin started the East Bladen second with back-to-back singles, and Scott was hit by a pitch. An error on Dan Tatum’s drive to rightfield cleared the bases as the lead grew to 8-0.

Howell began the Eagle third with a single, and one out later Pone delivered his third hit of the game. Melvin and Meares reached on errors, and Howell, Pone and Melvin all scored runs in the inning as the lead grew to 11-0.

With one out in the fourth, Howell reached base on an error, Heustess walked and Pone, Melvin, and Scott laced back-to-back-to-back singles as Howell, Heustess, Pone, Melvin and Scott all scored to stretch the lead to 16-0.

The East Bladen jayvees are now 4-1 in the Four County Conference and 7-2 overall. The Eagles will host Wallace-Rose Hill Thursday at 4 p.m.
