ELIZABETHTOWN — The East Bladen junior varsity baseball team exploded for 11 runs in the second inning Friday in a 21-0 rout of Fairmont at Russell Priest Field to remain unbeaten this season.

The game was halted during the bottom of the fourth inning after the Eagles had scored seven runs.

Six players drove in at least two runs as the Eagles improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southeastern Athletic Conference. The East Bladen JVs are scheduled to play at Whiteville on Wednesday in a non-conference game.

Cole Butler led the East Bladen offense, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Caleb Scruggins, Darius Williamson, Carson Gooden, D.A. Smith and Andrew Musselwhite each had a hit and drove in two runs. Mason Brooks had the other Eagles hit.

East Bladen collected only eight hits, but took advantage of eight walks, 10 wild pitches and five hit batters by a trio of Fairmont pitchers along with six errors committed by the Golden Tornadoes’ defense.

Scruggins and Na’toren Corbett each scored three runs for the Eagles. Bray Heustess, Maliki Moore and Chase Butler each scored twice. Aiden Hargrove, Kalec Autry, Lee Barnes, Smith, Musselwhite, Cole Butler, Brooks, Gooden and Williamson each scored once.

Barnes and Gooden combined on a two-hitter for East Bladen. Barnes started and pitched three innings. He allowed both Fairmont hits – singles in the first and third innings – struck out six and didn’t walk a batter. Gooden pitched the final inning.

East Bladen sent 15 batters to the plate in the second inning. Cole Butler drove in a run with a single and later connected for a two-run single. Williamson had a two-run single, Cole Butler and Smith each drove in a run with hits, Scruggins drew a bases loaded walk and Autry and Corbett were hit by pitches with the bases loaded. Smith had a sacrifice fly.
