BLADENBORO – West Bladen exploded for 7 runs in the 2nd inning to take an 8-2 lead en route to a 14-4 non-conference jayvee baseball victory over East Columbus Thursday night.

The Gators capitalized on a single and 2 walks to take a 2-0 1st inning lead. The Knights answered when Jamarh Richardson lined a single to right in the home 1st, advanced on a passed ball and dashed home on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 2-1.

Jordan Underwood led off the Knight 2nd inning with a double and came around to scored on a pair of passed balls. Aaron Wren and Cornelius Esters drew walks, and Wren scooted home on a wild pitch. Andre Moore drew a walk. Esters stole home on the back end of a double steal with Moore who stole 2nd base.

Kaden Revels and Richardson drew walks, and Garrison Carr’s ground ball was booted by the thirdbaseman allowing Moore and Revels to score. Richardson dashed home on an error, and Carr scored on Wadeyn Norris’ grounder to put West in front 8-2.

Revels raked a single to left then circled the bases on a trio of passed balls to grow the lead to 9-2 in the 3rd inning. C. Watts and J Robbins began the Gator 4th inning with singles. Watts scored on a passed ball and an infield out scored another East run to trim the lead to 9-4.

Underwood belted a single to left in the Knight 4th inning, Wren was hit by a pitch, and Esters walked to load the bases. Underwood and Wren scored on passed balls. Moore walked, and Revels drilled a single to left that scored Esters. Will Durden walked, Moore sprinted home on a passed ball, and Nolan Tatum knocked in Revels with a single that grew the lead to 14-4.

Winning pitcher Carr pitched a 3-hitter and allowed 4 runs – 2 earned – while striking out 5 and walking only one. At the plate Carr drove in 2 runs and scored a run.

Underwood batted 2-for-2 with a double and scored 2 runs. Revels finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 runs scored and a run batted in. Tatum, Richardson and Norris connected for 1 hit each. Moore, Richardson, Wren and Esters scored 2 runs each. Norris and Tatum drove in 1 run each.

Robbins, J. Stewart and Watts cracked hits for East Columbus. Robbins was the starting and losing pitcher for the Gators.

It was the season opener for Coach Wade Pait’s Knights, who will host West Columbus Tuesday at 4 p.m.
