CLINTON- West Bladen exploded for six first-inning runs Wednesday en route to a 9-4 non-conference jayvee baseball victory over Clinton.

Freshman Alex Strange smacked a one-out single to left field in the Knight first inning. Freshman Bryley Williams walked, and sophmore Sam West knocked in Strange and Williams with a single. Freshman Brycen Blackmon laced a single that scored West.

Freshman Elijah Crabtree was hit by a pitch, and freshman Todd Richardson cracked a single that drove in Blackmon. Freshmen Riley Stanley and Tucker Carroll drew walks as Crabtree scored. Freshman Alex Brisson’s fielder’s choice plated Richardson for a 6-0 Knight lead.

Williams reached on an error in the second inning and raced home when West lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield for a 7-0 lead.

An error and Daniel Richardson’s single produced a Clinton run in the home second.

Carroll walked, advanced on a passed ball and dashed home when Strange lined a single to centerfield to pad the lead to 8-1 in the top of the third.

Adam Daw slammed a double to drive in a Dark Horse run in the third inning, and a walk, a hit and an error produced two Clinton runs in the fourth that trimmed the margin to 8-4.

Carroll walked and eventually scored the final West Bladen run on an error in the fifth inning.

Strange batted 2-4 with a run batted in to lead the Knight hitters. Crabtree hammered a double and scored a run. West, Blackmon, and Todd Richardson added one hit each and scored one run each.

West drove in 3 runs, and Blackmon, Brisson and Todd Richardson had one rbi each. Carroll walked 3 times and scored twice. Williams also scored 2 runs.

Brisson pitched the first two innings and allowed a hit and a run while striking out two. Williams relieved and worked 1.1 innings giving up a hit, a walk and a run while striking out four. Blackmon pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on a hit and 3 walks while striking out three.

Daniel Richardson batted 2-3 with an rbi and a run scored to lead the Clinton hitters.

West Bladen will travel to West Columbus Friday for a Three Rivers Conference game.
