West Bladen High School Logo West Bladen exploded for 9 runs in the top of the seventh inning, then held off West Columbus to claim a 9-7 non-conference junior varsity baseball victory in Cerro Gordo Tuesday.

The Knights trailed 5-0 entering the top of the seventh, but a string of wildness by the Viking pitchers got the inning started. Cody Garner belted a key 2-run single, and sophomore Hunter Pait hammered a 2-run double to left-centerfield to highlight the winning rally.

West Columbus battled back with 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh, but West Bladen held on for the win. Ian Sykes pitched the final 3 innings to pick up the victory for the Knights. Freshman Scott Bowen pitched the first 4 innings for the Knights and did not walk a batter.

Coach Rick Rhoda’s Knights improved to 2-0 on the season and will open Four County Conference play Friday night at home against Midway at 4 p.m.
