ROCKY POINT – Heide Trask made 3 of 4 free throws in overtime and edged East Bladen 32-31 in Waccamaw Conference jayvee boys’ basketball action Wednesday night.

The score was knotted 29-29 after regulation play. The Eagles missed 4 free throws in the extra period, but Dashawn Campbell drove for a lay-up to trim the Trask lead to 32-31 with 9 seconds left. The Eagles stole the ball, but a final shot attempt was partially blocked.

Torrean Cogdell sank 2 free throws in the final quarter to keep the Eagles ahead 28-24, but Trask rallied to take their first lead of the game at 29-28. Kyran McKoy tied the game at 29 with a free throw with 20 seconds remaining.

Campbell and Cogdell led the Eagle scoring with 8 points each. Khalil McKoy followed with 6 points, and Kyran McKoy finished with 5 points.

Khalil McKoy buried an early 3-ball to start the game for the Eagles. Campbell turned assists from Cogdell and Kyran McKoy into lay-ups. Cogdell tossed in a 6-footer, and Kyran McKoy muscled in a follow shot to put East up 11-4.

Another Cogdell assist resulted in a Campbell lay-up. Kyran McKoy converted an assist from Khalil McKoy into a lay-up. Khalil McKoy nailed another 3-point shot, Cogdell put back a rebound basket, and John Monroe cashed in 2 free throws to boost the Eagle lead to 22-12 at halftime.

Cogdell flipped in a runner, and Sheldon Melvin rattled in a 14-footer for the only East baskets in the 3rd quarter.

The Eagles, now 3-1 in league play and 5-5 overall, will host West Columbus Friday.
