CLINTON – Sophomore Iveonna “NeNe” Ward fired in 12 service points to lead East Bladen to a 2-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee volleyball victory over Clinton Monday by set scores of 25-23 and 25-20.

Ward blistered the court with 9 straight service points to begin the 2nd set. Clinton rallied to within 16-12, but 2 service points each from Ward and freshman Jenna Brice stretched the lead to 23-15.

Four service points each from sophomore Mollie Tolar and junior Zoe Smith built a 20-13 East lead in the 1st set before a late Clinton run tied the set 23-23. After a side-out, Ward served out the set.

Sophomore Mary Frances Sutton battered the Clinton defense with 14 attacks and had 1 service point. Tolar pounded in 9 attacks, 5 service points and a block. Ward swatted in 8 attacks. Smith knocked in 8 attacks and 4 service points.

Sophomore Martha Simmons belted in 4 attacks and 2 service points. Jenna Brice drilled in 1 ace and 4 service points. Molly Evans had 2 attacks and Aubrie Nixon had 1 attack.

Coach Jessica Eason’s Lady Eagles improved to 6-2 in SAC-7 play and 9-5 overall. East Bladen will host West Bladen Tuesday at 4:30.
