LaceySuggsFor East Bladen senior Lacey Suggs, the post-season basketball awards keep rolling in – two All-State teams and a trio of Player of the Year Awards.

Suggs who led East Bladen’s Lady Eagles to the NCHSAA Class 2A Eastern Regional Finals has been named to the Associated Press All-State Team and to the NC Basketball Coaches Association All-State Team.

In addition the 5-10 guard was also chosen as the Wilmington Star-News All-Area Player of the Year, the Fayetteville Observer All-Cape Fear Region Player of the Year and the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association District 4 Player of the Year. She was earlier named the Four County Conference Player of the Year.

“Lacey is very deserving of all of these awards,” said East Bladen Coach Patty Evers. “She has started all four years for us and has been our leader. She does a lot of things that make her teammates better.”

In her career Suggs scored over 2,000 points, grabbed over 800 rebounds and was credited with over 600 steals. Over her last three seasons, she has averaged 19.1, 22.2 and 22.4 points per game.

As impressive as those stats are, Suggs turned it up a few notches during the Lady Eagles play-off run. Over her last 7 games, she averaged 25.7 points and 11.1 rebounds and posted 5 double-doubles during that run.

Suggs finished her career with 2,139 points, and for the season averaged 22.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4.4 assists.

East Bladen posted a102-11 during her career and was 87-4 over the last 3 years with two Eastern Regional appearances and one Eastern Final.

“She led us back to the Regional Finals for the first time since 2011,” noted Coach Evers. “As good as she is on the court, she is just as good a person off the court.”

Suggs will continue to display her basketball abilities at UNC-Wilmington next season where she will be a preferred walk-on.

“She has so much athletic ability,” continued Coach Evers. “She is gifted, she is smart and a hard worker. She doesn’t like to get beat.”
