State Champ, Mary Caitlin Campbell

LOMBARD, IL – Mary Caitlin Campbell placed 7th in the USA Powerlifting Raw Nationals Women’s Open 72 kg weight class Saturday and recorded personal bests in all 3 powerlifting disciplines.

Campbell (pictured in a file photo) totaled 457.5 kg (1,006.5 pounds) for the 3 disciplines to finish only 5 kg out of fourth-place and improved her personal bests by 2.5 kg in both the squat and bench and by 5 kg in the deadlift.

“I missed medaling, but I don’t know if 5 more kilograms was there tonight,” said Campbell. “But, anyways, I like seventh.”

The Bladenboro native who is the North Carolina state record-holder in her weight-class for the squat raised that record to 175 kg (385 pounds) on her second attempt. She missed a lift at 177.5 kg in her final squat attempt.

In the bench Campbell made all 3 of her attempts and recorded a lift of 95 kg (209 pounds) on her third attempt.

Campbell matched her personal record of 182.5 kg on her first deadlift but missed her second attempt. On her third and final attempt Campbell lifted 187.5 kg (412.5 pounds) .

“I wanted to take the deadlift state record, but my second lift messed that up,” said Campbell. The 457.5 kg total for the 3 disciplines was also a personal best for Campbell.

Kloie Doublin of Fremont, NE won the 72 kg Women’s Open with a 510 kg total. Jasmyn Penn of Texas was second with 507.5 kg, and Soraya Selamie of South Brunswick, NJ was third with 467.5 kg.
