TABOR CITY – Zahmarion Pone and Jerod Smith combined to pitch 1.2 innings of scoreless, hitless relief Tuesday that helped Clarkton School of Discovery preserve a 12-7 Waccamaw Conference ‘A’ Division victory over Tabor City.

Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils improved to 2-1 in Division ‘A’ and 4-5 overall. Clarkton will host Williams Thursday. Tabor City dropped to 0-3 in Division ‘A’ and 0-7 overall.

Tabor had trimmed a 12-1 Blue Devil lead to 12-7 when Pone came on to retire the only 2 batters that he faced in the 4th inning striking out 1. Smith struck out 3 of the 4 batters that he faced in the 5th inning to end the game. Omar Powell started for CSD and picked up the win with 3.1 innings of work allowing 7 runs on 3 hits and 8 walks.

Ryne Priest walked to start the game, and Prince Powell reached base. Pone slammed a double, Smith walked and Omar Powell sacrificed. Priest, Prince Powell and Pone all scored as Clarkton grabbed a 3-0 lead.

Tabor tied the game in the bottom of the inning, but Cayden Morton, Isaiah Adkins, and Priest drew walks to begin the 2nd inning. Prince Powell belted a single, Smith was hit by a pitch, and Omar Powell walked. Morton, Adkins and Prince Powell all scored to put the Blue Devils on top 6-3.

Morton and Adkins were both hit by pitches to start the Clarkton 3rd inning. Priest walked, and Prince Powell and Pone smacked singles. Omar Powell walloped a triple, Cayden Stocks was hit by a pitch, and Owen Hall’s fielder’s choice plated the final Blue Devil run. Morton, Adkins, Priest, Prince Powell, Pone and Omar Powell all scored as the lead grew to 12-3.

Prince Powell batted 3-for-5 with a double and 3 runs scored to lead the winners. Pone finished 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Omar Powell tripled and scored a run. Morton singled, walked twice and scored 2 runs. Priest walked 4 times and scored 2 runs. Adkins walked twice and scored twice.
