WHITEVILLE– Whiteville Central scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning to break a 6-6 tie and went on to claim an 8-6 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Elizabethtown Tuesday.

Torrean Cogdell walked to lead off the game, advanced on a pair of passed balls and darted home on C. J. McCracken’s ground ball.

Central answered with 4 runs in the home half of the 1st on 2 hits, 3 walks and 2 errors. “Errors killed us today. We should have won,” said Cougar Coach Larry Williams.  Central tacked on 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a pair of hits.

Back came the Cougars in the 3rd inning. Keon Whittington walked, Colton Daly reached on a passed 3rd strike and McCracken walked. Isaiah Lee cleaned the bases by blasting a 3-run double. Braylon Cromartie knocked in Lee with a single. Ayden Williams walked, and Jadarius McArthur’s fielder’s choice drove in Cromartie with the tying run.

Central’s Camden Butler blasted a 2-run triple in the home half of the 3rd inning to drive in the deciding runs.

Lee’s 3-run double led the Cougar hitters. Cromartie knocked in Lee with a single and scored a run. Cogdell walked twice and scored a run. Daly, McCracken and Whittington scored runs.

McCracken pitched for the Cougars and allowed 7 hits while striking out five and walking six.

The Cougars will travel to Bladenboro Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game.
