ELIZABETHTOWN – Lakota Schmale and Cyncere Jessup combined to score 12 of their 24 points in overtime as Emereau Bladen claimed a 34-28 middle school boys basketball victory Monday night over Harrells Christian.
Jessup lit up the scoreboard with 3 baskets and a free throw in overtime and finished with 10 points. Schmale sank 3 free throws and a basket in the extra periods and led all scorers with 14 points.
The Aviators never trailed until Dayton Wilson drained a 3-point shot with 50 seconds left in regulation to push Harrells in front 22-20. Emereau’s Mark’kus Bass nailed a pull-up jumper in the closing seconds to tie the game and force overtime. Both teams scored baskets in the 1st overtime, before the Aviators pulled away with a 10-4 run.
Joel Lewis filled up the rims with 4 1st half baskets as the Aviators took a 13-11 lead. Schmale tossed in 2 baskets and a free throw before halftime then added a basket and 2 free throws in the 2nd half.
Lewis followed Schmale and Jessup on the Aviator scoring list with 8 points. Jordan Fillyaw topped the Harrells scoring with 11 points, and Wilson totaled 8 points.
Coach Dom Whittington’s Aviators evened their record at 1-1.
