BLADENBORO Sincere McKinley and Corben Chadwick combined for 21 points and keyed a 9-1 closing run that lifted Bladenboro to a 33-31 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Elizabethtown Thursday night.

Coach Joe Gore’s Bulldogs secured 2nd place in the Waccamaw’s ‘AA’ Division with a 3-1 record and are 6-3 overall. Bladenboro will return to action in the Bladen County Tournament that is slated to begin on February 26. Elizabethtown, now 3-6, will host Tar Heel Tuesday.

Elizabethtown carried a 26-21 into the final period and Jayden Lewis popped in a pair of baskets to keep the Cougars on top 30-24. Brooks Carroll banged in a basket and a free throw for the Bulldogs. Chadwick fired in a trio of baskets to tie the score. McKinley sank a free throw, then stole the ball and sent a pass to Chadwick for a lay-up and a 33-30 Bulldog lead. Damian Maynor canned a free throw for the final Cougar point.

Chadwick led the Bulldogs with 12 points, and McKinley followed with 9 points. Isaiah Minus tossed in 6 points. Lewis poured in 18 points to lead the Cougars. Teammate Fox Sutton drained a pair of 3-point shots for 6 points, and Tykee Hill tallied 4 points.

McKinley rang up a trio of baskets to start the game. Teammate Gaston Russ buried a 3-point shot, and Minus netted a free throw for a 10-6 lead. Lewis answered McKinley by scoring all 3 of the Elizabethtown baskets in the period.

Sutton drilled in his 3-pointers in the 2nd quarter. Lewis cashed in 3 free throws and another basket. Hill and Prince McKoy powered in baskets as the Cougars built a 21-19 lead. Chadwick pumped in 2 baskets, Minus delivered a 3-point shot, and McKinley flipped in a basket to keep the Bulldogs close.

Lewis and Hill muscled in 3rd period baskets for the Cougars and Lewis tacked on a free throw for a 24-21 Elizabethtown lead. Minus scored the only Bladenboro basket in the quarter.
