TAR HEEL – Clarkton School of Discovery closed the game with a 10-4 run to pull out a 42-29 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys basketball victory Tuesday night over Tar Heel.
Five different Blue Devils – Garrett Melvin, J. T. Junious, Cornelius McArthur, Jacob Priest and Jake Garrison – scored baskets in the first quarter as Clarkton built a 10-3 lead.
Kendall Johnson muscled in a basket, and Khalil Lloyd hit a free throw for the Tar Heel points. Lloyd threw in a trio of baskets in the second quarter, and center Kai Belle powered in a pair of baskets as the Panthers trimmed the CSD lead to 17-13.
Junious dropped in a pair of baskets for Clarkton in the second quarter, Melvin drove for a basket, and Priest hit a free throw.
Melvin sank 2 baskets and 3 free throws in the third quarter, and Priest and Garrison tossed in a pair of baskets each as the Blue Devils padded their lead to 32-25.
Johnson fired in a trio of baskets for Tar Heel in the quarter, Antonio Candeleria netted a pair of baskets, and Lloyd and Jordan Underwood hit free throws.
Priest and McArthur worked the paint for 2 baskets each in the final quarter, and Junious added a basket for Clarkton. Belle and Underwood scored baskets for Tar Heel in the final period.
Priest and Melvin shared scoring honors for Clarkton with 11 points each, and McArthur followed with 10 points. Garrison finished with 6 points, and Junious had 4 points.
Johnson and Lloyd topped the Tar Heel scoring with 8 points each. Belle followed with 6 points, and Candeleria finished with 4 points.
Clarkton improved to 4-1 with the victory. Tar Heel is now 2-4.
