LAKE WACCAMAW — J.T. Hudson scored 21 points in leading East Columbus to a 43-25 win Wednesday against Clarkton School of Discovery.

The Waccamaw Conference boys’ basketball game was the season opener for Clarkton. East Columbus is 3-1 after reaching the championship game of last week’s East Columbus middle school tournament.

ShyRon Thompson led the Blue Devils with 13 points.

Thompson scored the first two baskets of the game, but consecutive 3-point field goals by Judson and Khari Bowens gave the Gators a lead they would not relinquish.

East Columbus led 24-13 at half.

Zamarion Pone connected on a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter for Clarkton.

Clarkton is scheduled to play at Tar Heel on Thursday. The game originally was scheduled to be played at Clarkton, but was moved since the Clarkton gym does not have heat.
