LAKE WACCAMAW — Kevi Worley scored 10 of her game high 16 points in the first half as East Columbus defeated Clarkton School of Discovery 32-14 in a Waccamaw Conference middle school girls’ basketball game.

Tiekeriah Tisdale netted seven points for the Blue Devils, including a 3-point field goal in the second quarter, in their season-opening game.

East Columbus is 4-0 and won the East Columbus middle school invitational last week, beating West Columbus 35-12 in the title game.

 

Rahnyia McLean scored the first basket of the game that gave Clarkton a 2-0 lead, but East Columbus scored the next 11 points.

Tisdale’s 3-pointer followed by McLean’s second basket pulled Clarkton within 11-7 in the second quarter, but the Gators scored the final five points in the half for a 16-7 lead.

A free throw by McLean in third quarter brought Clarkton within eight at 18-10, but the Blue Devils could not get closer the rest of the way.

Clarkton is scheduled to play at Tar Heel on Thursday. The game originally was scheduled to be played at Clarkton, but was moved since the Clarkton gym does not have heat.
