TABOR CITY — Tabor City used a 10-4 4th quarter spurt to crack open a 35-34 game and claim a 45-38 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Elizabethtown Thursday night.
Jayden Lewis filled up the rims with a trio of baskets to start the game. Teammate Tykee Hill dropped in a bucket, and J. J. High hit a free throw as the Cougars grabbed an early 9-6 lead.
Lewis pumped in 2 more baskets in the 2nd period, High nailed a 3-point shot, and Damian Maynor, Prince McKoy and Brandon McKinley added baskets to keep the Cougars ahead 22-20 at halftime.
Hill broke loose inside for a trio of baskets and a free throw in the 3rd quarter. Lewis sank a basket and 2 free throws, and Maynor netted a free throw. However the Eagles edged ahead 35-34.
Lewis and Fox Sutton scored the only 2 baskets for Elizabethtown in the final period. Lewis led the Cougars with 16 points. Hill racked up 9 points, and High tallied 4 points.
Tabor City featured a 3-pronged attack with Number 11 scoring 14 points, Number 21 scoring 12 points, and Number 23 adding 11 points. Names were unavailable.
The Cougars, now 2-3, will host West Columbus Monday night. Tabor City will visit Bladenboro Monday.
