CERRO GORDO — West Columbus withstood a 10-5 Clarkton School of Discovery closing rally and escaped with a 22-20 victory in Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball action Thursday.
Tiekeriah Tisdale bombed in a pair of 3-point shots to key the Clarkton rally. Teammates Rahnyiah McLean and Kynzlee Woods threw in baskets, but West’s Demya Powell banged in a pair of baskets to keep the Lady Warriors on top.
McLean led the Lady Blue Devils with 9 points, and Tisdale was right behind her with 8 points. Powell topped all scorers with 10 points for West Columbus, and Alaina Spencer added 4.
McLean drilled in a 3-point shot and another basket, and Zoey Barger sank a free throw to keep CSD within 15-6 at halftime. McLean and Tisdale tossed in baskets in the 3rd quarter to close the gap to 17-10.
The Lady Blue Devils, now 2-3, will host Whiteville Central Tuesday night. West Columbus will visit Elizabethtown Monday.
