CERRO GORDO – West Columbus bolted to an early 25-3 lead and went on to defeat Tar Heel 42-18 Monday night in Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘AA’ Division boys’ basketball action.
D. J. Graham led the Warrior scoring with 12 points, followed by Charles McLeod with 8 points, and Ayden Scott with 7 points. Cedric McKiver topped the Tar Heel scoring with 6 points, and Shyron Thompson added 4 points.
McKiver buried a 3-point shot in the opening quarter for the Panthers, then threw in a basket and a free throw in the 2nd period. Keon Whittington and Ronnie Labra tossed in baskets before halftime for Tar Heel.
Levi Garcia pumped in a 3rd period basket for Tar Heel. Teammate Shyron Thompson fired in 2 baskets in the final quarter, and Carson Navarro cashed in a pair of free throws.
The Panthers, now 0-5 in league play and 1-7 overall, will host Whiteville Central Thursday.
