WHITEVILLE – Whiteville Central rode a 19-1 2nd quarter spurt to a 40-16 Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘AA’ Division boys’ basketball victory over Tar Heel Wednesday night.
Levi Garcia nailed a 3-point shot, and Keon Whittington threw in a basket to keep the Panthers within 8-5 at the 1st quarter break. However Shyron Thompson’s free throw accounted for the only Tar Heel point in the 2nd period as the Hornet lead ballooned to 27-6.
Garcia buried another 3-point shot plus another basket in the 3rd quarter, and Demarius Goins sank a free throw to keep the Panthers within 31-12. Thompson and Whittington tossed in baskets in the final period for Tar Heel.
Garcia topped the Tar Heel scoring with 10 points, and Thompson netted 3 points. C. Butler led Central with 9 points, and E. Kemp and J. Lambert followed with 8 points each.
Tar Heel, now 0-7 and 1-9, will host East Columbus Thursday.
