NAKINA – Tyliah Freeman drained a 3-point shot at the buzzer to lift Clarkton School of Discovery to a 13-12 Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘A’ Division girls’ basketball victory over Nakina Thursday.
The teams were deadlocked 6-6 after 3 periods, but Nevaeh Brown tossed in 2 baskets to keep Clarkton close until Freeman’s last-second heroics. Brown led the Lady Blue Devil scoring with 6 points, and Freeman was right behind her with 5 points.
Brianna Price scored 4 of her team-high 6 points for Nakina in the 4th quarter. Teammate Ryasia Lewis tossed in a basket in the final period and finished with 3 points.
Brown threw in the first Clarkton basket, and Freeman dropped in a basket in the 2nd quarter. Ellie Kinlaw popped in the tying basket for the Lady Blue Devils in the 3rd period.
Coach Hakeem Swindell’s Lady Blue Devils remain on top of the ‘A’ Division with a 5-0 league record and are 7-1 overall. Clarkton will entertain Bladenboro Tuesday.
