CLARKTON – Clarkton School of Discovery clinched the Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘A’ Division girls’ basketball championship Tuesday with a 21-18 victory over Bladenboro.

Coach Hakeem Swindell’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 6-1 in league play and 8-2 overall. Clarkton will close out their season at Williams Township Thursday. Bladenboro is now 4-3 in league play and 8-3 overall and will host Tabor City Thursday in their season finale.

Bladenboro built an early 5-0 lead as Cheyenne Reinhart drained a 3-point shot and Allison Hickman tossed in a basket. Reinhart drilled in another 3-ball in the 2nd quarter, but guard Montiera Richardson threw in a trio of baskets, and Nevaeh Brown and Tyliah Freeman made free throws as the Lady Blue Devils pulled even 8-8.

Reinhart buried another 3-ball and 2 free throws in the 3rd period as Bladenboro edged ahead 13-12. Brown popped in 2 baskets to keep Clarkton close.

Imani Bowens bombed in a 3-ball, and Brown, Freeman and Ellie Kinlaw pumped in baskets as the Lady Blue Devils rode a 9-5 spurt to the win. Reinhart connected on 4 free throws in the period for the Lady Bulldogs, and Karlee Gause netted one.

Reinhart’s 15 points topped all scorers for Bladenboro. Brown led the Clarkton scorers with 7 points, and Richardson was right behind her with 6 points. Freeman tallied 3 points.
