TAR HEEL – Elizabethtown raced to a 16-0 first quarter lead en route to a 25-10 girls basketball victory over Tar Heel Thursday in Bladen Five Middle School Conference action.

Elizabethtown’s Alexus Mitchell sank all four of her foul shots in the first quarter and added a basket. Teammates Lainey Hughes and Ronkira Lennon fired in two baskets each in the period, and Azariah Rhodie dropped in a basket.

Zoe Smith and Tyneque Murchison threw in baskets in the second period for the Lady Cougars. Fabiola Sandoval and Makayla Jones answered with a basket each for Tar Heel as the half ended with the visitors ahead 20-4.

Sandoval netted the only Lady Panther basket of the third period, while Hughes canned a free throw to keep Elizabethtown up 21-6.

Mitchell and Brianna Phillips tossed in baskets for the Lady Cougars in the final period. Harmony Jacobs bombed in a 3-point shot for Tar Heel in the quarter, and Jones made a free throw.

Mitchell led the Lady Cougars with 8 points, and Hughes followed with 5 points. Lennon totaled 4 points.

Sandoval topped the Tar Heel scoring with 4 points, and Jacobs and Jones followed with 3 points each.

Coach Chris Davisson’s Lady Cougars completed the regular season with a perfect 6-0 record.
