TAR HEEL – Sana’a Singletary and Aaliyah Monroe fired in 8 points each Thursday to lead Elizabethtown to a 28-7 Waccamaw Middle School ‘AA’ Division girls’ basketball victory over Tar Heel.

Singletary battled inside for a trio of 1st quarter baskets, and point guard Aaliyah Monroe pumped in a basket as the Lady Cougars raced to an early 8-1 lead. Ellen Battle dropped in an Elizabethtown basket in the 2nd quarter, and Taurihanna Currie banked in a Tar Heel basket as the half ended with the visitors ahead 10-3.

Monroe came up with a number of steals in the 3rd quarter and turned 3 of them into lay-ups as the Elizabethtown lead grew to 16-3. Singletary, Battle, Nyasia Banks and Zirrihanna White threw in a basket each in the 4th quarter, and Kayclynn Chambers tossed in 2 baskets for the Lady Cougars.

Battle and Chambers finished with 4 points each for the Lady Cougars. Jasmine Robeson connected on 3 free throws to lead Tar Heel, Currie and Abigail Dew who sank 2 free throws added 2 points each.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars remained unbeaten in ‘AA’ Division play with a 3-0 record and are 4-2 overall. Tar Heel dropped to 0-2 in the league and 0-4 overall. Elizabethtown will host West Columbus Tuesday, while Tar Heel travels to East Columbus Tuesday.
