ELIZABETHTOWN — Elizabethtown’s powerful inside duo of Ellen Battle and Sana’a Singletary combined for 24 points Tuesday to lead the Lady Cougars to a 37-8 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Willams Township.
Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars improved to 7-1 and will visit Bladenboro Thursday. Williams Township, now 0-9, will host Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday.
Battle headed the Elizabethtown scoring list with 14 points, and Singletary pumped in 10 points. Teammate Zariyahh Riddy totaled 7 points, and Racquel Whittington added 4 points. M. Spivey and J. Williams scored 3 points each for Williams.
Battle powered in 4 baskets in the 1st half, and Singletary and Riddy banged in 2 baskets each as the Lady Cougars raced to an 18-4 lead. Ny’Asia Lyles tossed in the other Elizabethtown basket.
Riddy drained a 3-point shot in the 3rd quarter, and Whittington fired in 2 baskets. Singletary and Battle dropped in a basket each as the lead grew to 29-8. Battle and Singletary rang up 2 baskets each in the final period.
