WHITEVILLE – Elizabethtown raced to a 30-8 first half lead en route to a 40-27 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Williams Tuesday.

Iveonna Ward and Zoe Smith tossed in 6 points each in the first quarter to spark the Lady Cougars to a 14-4 lead.

Zoe Smith fired in 3 more baskets in the second period, and Laila Smith pumped in 2 baskets as the Elizabethtown stretched the lead to 30-8.

Ward and Zoe Smith threw in baskets in the third quarter to keep the Lady Cougars ahead 34-17. Laila Smith, Ward and Zoe Smith added baskets in the final period.

Zoe Smith led the Elizabethtown scoring with 16 points, and Ward followed with 12 points. Laila Smith finished with 8 points.

Bethany Lupo scored 10 of her 16 points for Williams in the second half.

Coach Chris Davisson’s Lady Cougars remained unbeaten with a 3-0 record and will host Whiteville Central Thursday.
