TAR HEEL — Nakina’s 3-pronged attack of Addison Faulk, Adelyn Ward and Jenna Butler combined for 25 points and led the Lady Mustangs to a 27-22 Waccamaw Conference girls’ basketball victory over Tar Heel Tuesday.

Abigail Dew burnt the nets with a pair of 3-point shots and another basket in the 1st quarter that ended tied 8-8. Savannah Wooten sank a Lady Panther free throw in the 2nd period, but baskets by Ward and Riley Suggs gave Nakina a 12-9 halftime lead.

Faulk poured in 7 points in the 3rd quarter as the visitors lead grew to 21-12. Dew popped in a basket for Tar Heel in the period, and Serenity Council dropped in a free throw.

Council and Genesis Fernanta-Villafuerte rallied the Lady Panthers in the final quarter tossing in 2 baskets each. Wooten added a basket, but baskets by Faulk and Ward plus 2 Butler free throws kept Nakina on top.

Dew led all scorers with 10 points for Tar Heel. Council racked up 5 points, and Fernanta-Villafuerte followed with 4 points. Faulk topped the Nakina scoring with 9 points, and Ward and Butler finished with 8 points each.

Tar Heel, now 0-5, will host Elizabethtown Thursday.
