ELIZABETHTOWN – Whiteville Central pulled away with a 16-2 2nd half surge and defeated Elizabethtown 39-16 in Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball action.

Ariel Cromartie and Sanaa Singletary fired in 3 baskets each as the Lady Cougars raced to a 14-8 1st quarter lead. Teammate Harmony Richardson tossed in the other Elizabethtown basket in the period.

Shipman poured in 11 of her game-high 19 points for Central in the 2nd quarter as the Lady Hornets rode a 15-0 spurt to a 23-14 halftime lead. Phillips bombed in a pair of 3-balls for Central as the lead ballooned to 35-14. Phillips finished with 11 points.

Cromartie sank a free throw in the final period and led the Lady Cougars with 7 points. Singletary finished with 6 points, and Richardson tacked on a free throw and totaled 3 points in the game.

Elizabethtown, now 2-4, will host Bladenboro Thursday.
