TABOR CITY McKenzie Spivey and Jayda Williams combined for 19 of their 30 points during a 23-5 2nd half surge that carried Williams Township to a 36-19 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday.

The Lady Blue Devils, now 2-7, will host Elizabethtown Wednesday. Williams, now 1-9, will entertain Tar Heel Monday.

Williams sank 4 of 8 free throws and a basket to key a 10-3 3rd period spurt that overcame a 14-13 Clarkton lead and vaulted the Lady Aggies in front 23-17. Spivey pumped in 4 baskets and a free throw during a 13-2 closing run by Williams.

Hailey Taylor fired in a trio of baskets in the 1st quarter, and Kynslie Kinlaw tossed in a basket to keep Clarkton even 8-8 at the quarter break. Taylor threw in 2 more baskets, and Zoey Barger popped in a basket as the Lady Blue Devils edged ahead 14-13 at halftime.

Kynzlee Woods nailed a 3-point shot in the 3rd quarter, and Rahnyiah McLean netted a basket in the final period for the Lady Blue Devils.

Williams held an 8-0 advantage at the foul line connecting on just 8 of 24 attempts, while Clarkton missed their only 2 foul shots in the game. The Lady Blue Devils were whistled for 14 fouls in the 2nd half and 20 in the game. Williams committed only 8 fouls in the game.

Taylor led the Clarkton scoring with 10 points, and Woods tallied 3. Spivey topped all scorers for Williams with 18 points, and Jayda Williams followed with 12.
