NAKINA – Bladenboro’s Allison Hickman pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 13 batters Thursday. At the plate she blasted the deciding 3-run home run as the Lady Bulldogs defeated Nakina 5-2 in Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball action.
Ashley Rivon and Kristen Singletary were both hit by pitches with 1 out in the Lady Bulldog 6th inning. Hickman then walloped her homer that stretched a 2-1 lead to 5-1.
Maycee Kinlaw hammered a triple in the Bladenboro 1st inning and scored on Karlee Gause’s fielder’s choice. After Nakina tied the game 1-1, Kinlaw slammed a double to start the Lady Bulldog 5th inning and raced home on Gause’s single to edge the visitors ahead 2-1.
Kinlaw batted a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and 2 runs scored. Hickman slugged the 3-run homer, and Gause singled and drove in 2 runs. Rivon and Singletary also scored runs.
The victory keeps Coach Otis Evans’ Lady Bulldogs alive in the race for a share of the Waccamaw ‘A’ Conference title. Bladenboro, now 5-2 in league play and 6-2 overall, needs help from Nakina who plays at 5-1 Williams Thursday.
